Aloha Friends,
I hope this edition of the 2nd City Update (2CU) finds you and your family both in good health and spirits. Below, please find information regarding Hawaii Department of Transportation (HIDOT) road work for your Memorial Day weekend and the coming week. Between the Kapolei High School graduation tonight and nighttime closures of the Waianae-bound H-1 freeway, expect heavier than normal traffic on surface streets throughout Kapolei. Please plan your weekend travel accordingly to avoid being caught in the congestion:
- Westbound H-1 freeway closure between Makakilo Drive and the Kalaeloa/Campbell Industrial Park off-ramp: The freeway closure from 10PM to 5AM is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday nights (going into early Monday morning) and also Wednesday and Thursday nights of next week for improvements to the Kapolei Interchange.
- Westbound H-1 freeway from the Aiea Heights Drive overpass to the H-1/H-2 split: Two/three lanes closed on Friday night (7:30 PM) to Saturday morning (10:30 AM), then on Saturday night (starting at 6:00 PM) to Sunday morning at 10:15 AM.
- Eastbound H-1 freeway from the H-1/H-2 merge to the Aiea Heights Drive overpass: Two/three lanes closed on Friday night (6:30 PM) to Saturday morning (6:00 AM), then on Saturday night (starting at 7:00 PM) to Sunday morning at 9:00 AM.
HECO (Hawaiian Electric Company) wants you to know about a scam that involves people posing as HECO employees. They want you to know the following:
- If you receive a call from someone or an automated recording from Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric or Hawaiʻi Electric Light demanding immediate payment over the phone or via prepaid debit cards, it’s a scam.
- If the caller says your account is delinquent and threatens to shut off your power immediately unless payment is made, it’s a scam.
- If the caller asks to meet you to pick up a payment, it’s a scam.
- Customers should simply hang up if they receive such a call, and then dial the customer service line that is printed on their monthly electric bills or listed on their company’s website. They should not call the number displayed on the caller ID, even if it says “HECO,” “MECO” or “HELCO.”
As part of a Memorial Day tradition, the Scouts of Hawaii (in conjunction with the City & County of Honolulu) place flags and leis at more than 38,000 grave sites at Punchbowl (National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific). While leis were sewn by volunteers on Friday morning, you can still drop off leis directly to Punchbowl Cemetery on Saturday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on Sunday from 8:00 AM to 12:00PM. Please click on the appropriate links for more information regarding Memorial Day ceremonies at Punchbowl and the Lantern Festival at Ala Moana Beach Park.
As always, you can find the most recent version of my Friday eNewsletter on our website: 2ndCityUpdate.org.
Aloha,
Sharon
