May 11th, 2018 – 2nd City Update

Aloha Friends,

I hope this edition of the 2nd City Update finds you and your family both in good health and spirits.

Please join me tomorrow (Saturday, May 12th) morning at the Kapolei High School Teachers’ Lounge for my End-of-Session Talk Story.  At this meeting, I plan to summarize some of the important bills that the Legislature passed this year and how they might affect you.  Coffee and refreshments will be provided; all you need to bring is your questions!  The discussion will start promptly at 9:00 A.M. and will have to conclude by 10:00 A.M. due to event limitations.

The Hawaii State Department of Transportation will be continuing road work on the H-1 Freeway in the vicinity of Aiea-Waimalu-Pearl City.  Lane closures in the westbound direction are scheduled to begin tonight (Friday) at 7:30 P.M. with completion scheduled for 9:00 A.M Saturday morning.  Lane closures in the eastbound direction will begin Saturday night starting at 7:30 P.M., with work to continue until 9:00 A.M. Sunday morning.  To avoid congestion, please plan your weekend activities accordingly.  For information on this (and other) road work taking place, head over to the HIDOT pages for Weekend Road Work and for Oahu Lane Closures.

In addition to tomorrow’s Talk Story, the information regarding the following Kapolei/Makakilo (and beyond) events can be found below the signature:

  • Summer Reading Volunteers wanted at the Kapolei Public Library
  • Star Wars Exhibit at the Kapolei Public Library
  • (Fri., May 25th) Kapolei High School Graduation, Class of 2018
  • (Sat., May 26th) Blood Drive – Kapolei Eye Care
  • (Sat. June 2nd) West Oahu Pet Walk by Poi Dogs & Popoki
  • Summer Day Camps at the Kroc Center

On a final note, I wanted to wish all you (and especially all the moms) a very Happy Mother’s Day.  This Mother’s Day will be particularly special to me since this is the first year I get to celebrate this day as a mom.  They may not make me breakfast in bed — they probably will not even let me sleep in.  But I cannot think of two other people I would rather spend this Mother’s Day with.

Aloha,
Sharon
